SALT

Salt is a dark comedy horror short film centered on a deeply resentful housewife whose marriage has quietly rotted beneath the surface of suburban normalcy. After one final passive-aggressive dinner conversation — sparked by the simple request, “Pass the salt” — something in her finally breaks. Soon after, her husband mysteriously disappears from public life, while she calmly begins crafting award-winning pies and chili that earn praise at the local state fair. As the town celebrates her “homestyle flavor,” whispers begin to circulate about what really happened behind the walls of their pristine suburban home. The film explores salt both literally and symbolically: as seasoning, as preservation, and as the thing rubbed into a wound long after the damage has already been done. What begins as bitterness calcifies into ritual, as resentment is carefully maintained rather than healed. Beneath its absurd humor and eerie domesticity, Salt becomes a grotesque satire of marriage, repression, and the performance of the perfect wife — culminating in a chilling final reveal that recontextualizes the entire metaphor.
